Be Careful: "Finders" and Scams
A finder is someone who offers to help you claim money—for a fee. You don’t need to pay anyone to search for or claim your funds. You can do it yourself for free.
Scammers may pose as finders to try to steal your personal information or take your unclaimed funds for themselves. Do not work with a finder who: 🚫 Wants you to pay them before you receive your unclaimed funds. 🚫 Asks you for private information such as Social Security or bank account numbers.
🚫 Asks you to sign a power of attorney form.
Cuyahoga County does not permit paid finders to collect funds owed to someone else.
