Water Safety is Fundamental
From community pools to our great Lake Erie, water safety is essential to a healthy and thriving Cuyahoga County—and foundational to our growing water culture.
According to the CDC, drowning rates in the U.S. are rising and more than half of adults report never having taken a swim lesson. Many families across our region are unable to access to basic swimming and water safety instruction, even though these skills are proven to reduce drowning and build lifelong comfort around water.
The Fresh Water Institute is working to change that by supporting programs that expand swimming competency, increase water safety awareness, and empower residents of all ages to enjoy the water safely.
