Public Safety and Justice

Executive Ronayne is resolved to build a stronger community through collaborative, justice-focused efforts that promote safety, fairness, and dignity for all.

Our Priorities

Reduced New Justice System Involvement and Recidivism

Reduce both the number of first-time offenders and the recidivism rate among justice-involved individuals by effectively connecting them with appropriate support services and resources, including access to mental health care, substance use treatment, education, employment opportunities, and housing stability – key factors known to prevent further justice system involvement.

Priority in Action

Office of Reentry

The Office of Reentry coordinates local efforts to support the successful reintegration of individuals transitioning from incarceration to community, including a robust schedule of events during Reentry Month in April of every year.

Strong Collaboration

Strengthen partnerships among the justice system, public safety, and community agencies across Cuyahoga County to promote coordinated responses, improve service delivery, and enhance outcomes for individuals and communities.

Priority in Action

First Call Cuyahoga: Community Co-Response Startup Fund

Cuyahoga County has expanded efforts to help communities support programs that connect public safety professionals with behavioral health specialists who can assist residents in crisis through the First Call Cuyahoga: Community Co-Response Startup Fund.

Emergency Preparedness and Resilience

Foster a more resilient and prepared community by promoting inclusive engagement, strengthening local partnerships, and investing in education, infrastructure, and resources that enhance the community’s ability to anticipate, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters.

Priority in Action

ReadyNotify Emergency Notification System

The Office of Emergency Management continues to maintain and train participating municipalities in the ReadyNotify emergency notification system to ensure residents are informed immediately about severe weather and emergency events.
