When Jim and Maria Kantzios immigrated to the United States from their native Macedonia in 1951, they settled in Cleveland and opened Athens Imported Food and Deli. Selling Greek foods to the area’s growing Greek population, their business expanded when Jim—who also worked the assembly line at Ford Motor Company—developed a machine that made a perfectly thin phyllo dough. The technology he developed more than 60 years ago makes Athens Foods, headquartered in Cleveland, the largest manufacturer of phyllo dough and phyllo products in the world.

UHBikes, Cuyahoga County’s bikeshare program, is turning one! In July 2016, 10 stations in downtown Cleveland were deployed for a pre-launch prior to the Republican National Convention.

On July 1, 2019, Cuyahoga County kicked off Innovation Academy Training with the first Yellow Belt Course. The Cuyahoga County Innovation Academy (CCIA) uses Lean Six Sigma and Project Management methodologies to equip and enhance employees with the skills to improve programs and find efficiencies across the County.

In January of 2014, I heard Jon Katov, Co-founder of a national mentoring program called The Open Table speak at Grumpy’s restaurant in Tremont. He was speaking to a room of social workers about how being in a relationship with a homeless veteran transformed his life. He talked about how wanting to help this man, changed him, changed his friends, changed his church, and changed his community.
