Hiring Process

From Job Search to Onboarding

Learn what to expect as you move through Cuyahoga County's hiring process. The application-screening steps differ for classified and unclassified positions before both paths continue through interview, selection and onboarding.

Job Seeker

  1. Search Current Job Openings

Review available opportunities on the Cuyahoga County Jobs Board .

  2. Apply

Find one or more positions that match your interests and experience. Create an account and submit your application.

Job Candidate

  1. Application Screening

The job posting will identify the position type and the hiring process you should expect.

    Classified path
    Civil Service Positions

Classified positions require that applicants meet minimum qualifications and may require a civil service examination. The Personnel Review Commission (PRC) will email you job eligibility information. This email may include an invitation to take an examination.

For positions that don’t require an examination, all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on a certified eligibility list. If an examination is required, the highest scoring candidates who take the examination will be placed on a certified eligibility list. The list is provided to Human Resources and the hiring department. Candidates selected from the eligibility list will receive an email explaining the next step, which may include an interview.

    Unclassified path
    Appointed or At-Will Positions

Members of the Talent Acquisition team will review applications to confirm you meet the minimum qualifications. If you meet the minimum qualifications and are selected by the hiring department to continue in the process, you will receive an email explaining the next step, which may include an interview.
