Cuyahoga County Archives
Want to know more about your ancestors? Want more information about your house? You can find these things and more with a visit to the Cuyahoga County Archives, in the old Halle’s Warehouse Building at 3951 Perkins Avenue. Opened in 1975, the Cuyahoga County Archives keeps the records of our county government in accordance with modern records retentions laws, so that our historical and cultural heritage can be kept for future generations.
Canalway Partners
Celebrate the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal with Canalway Partners. This nonprofit organization supports the Towpath Trail, Canal Basin Park, and Cleveland History Days—a dynamic annual festival connecting people to our industrial and cultural roots.
Western Reserve Historical Society
Dive into the region’s heritage at the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS), a Smithsonian-affiliated nonprofit founded in 1867. Visit its flagship Cleveland History Center to see historic homes, the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, the Euclid Beach Carousel, and changing exhibits.
Cuyahoga Valley Genealogical Society
The CVGS collaborates with local societies—including WRHS, Cleveland Public Library, and the County Archives—to share genealogical expertise and organize lineage recognition groups.
Cleveland Memory Project
Hosted by Cleveland State University, the Cleveland Memory Project offers a rich digital archive of historical photos, newspapers, oral histories, and audio-visual content.
Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument
Cuyahoga County’s Civil War Monument rests in Cleveland’s Public Square. It includes a 125-foot column, four bronze groupings with Navy, Artillery, Infantry and Cavalry battle scenes, and bronze relief sculptures in the interior of important historical events. The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument is open daily.
