Court Document Services


The only acceptable forms of payment are:

  • Certified bank check or Cashier check ***NO CREDIT UNION CHECKS***
  • Money Order - not to exceed a total of $10,000
  • Plaintiff's law firm check

    The Civil Administrative Unit will accept payments from 8:00am through 3:30pm, closed weekends and legal holidays.

    Writ of Execution

    • Deposit of $200.00 payable to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff for an execution of goods and chattels
    • Deposit of $400.00 per vehicle payable to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff, for an execution on any type of vehicle with a VIN number. Must provide a copy of the title for each vehicle - no exceptions.
    • Separate deposit of $3.00 filing fee payable to the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts
    • Praecipe for a Writ of Execution with instructions for the items to levy upon
    • Certified copy of the judgment
    • For Foreign Judgments, the case must be adopted into the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, and given a CV\JL case number.
    • One (1) original signed set of service papers and two (2) copies, one each for the defendant and the Clerk. An extra set of paperwork, with a prepaid self-addressed envelope, may be included, if a stamped copy is requested as proof of filing.

    Order of Possession / Replevin

    • Deposit of $200.00 payable to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff
    • Instructions for the Sheriff
    • Certified copy of the order
    • Copy of the bond if not waived
    • Copy of the title for vehicles

    Notice to Commence Suit - Two full packets of the below are required

    • Deposit of $75.00 payable to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff
    • Instructions listing the party requesting the service, the party being served, address where party can be located, and if certified mail is wanted when deputy service is unsuccessful
    • Notice
    • Recorded Affidavit of Lien
    • Legal description
    • One (1) self-addressed envelope for the Return of Service and refund (if any)

    Foreign document service

    • Deposit of $100.00 per entity and per address. Service requests submitted by State of Ohio courts are invoiced after service is complete.
    • Request MUST be received in Civil no later than eight (8) business days from the hearing date to attempt service.
    • Instructions listing the party to be served, address where party can be located, and type of service requested (personal, residential or post)
    • One (1) set of service papers
    • One (1) self-addressed envelope for the Return of Service and refund (if any)

    You may be billed for additional funds if the total service costs exceed the deposit amount.

    Service results will not be provided over the phone or through email. Results will be returned to the Clerk of Courts or the filing party.

    Service will not be attempted, and the documents returned, if the above requirements are not met.

    **The Sheriff's Department will not sign any documents that are not prepared by the Sheriff's Civil Unit, nor will we prepare any additional documents pertaining to a case not normally provided for all cases.
