Cuyahoga County Heritage Tree

America 250-Ohio is offering each Ohio county a gift of a native Ohio white oak tree in honor of America’s 250th birthday. Cuyahoga County will host a ceremonial planting of the tree at Lake View Cemetery. Let’s root for the future as we plant a legacy Heritage Tree that will grow for generations.

Patriotic Lighting Display

The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works has installed a beautiful red, white, and blue lighting display on the Veterans Memorial Bridge to celebrate America 250. The installation will continue all year as a tribute to the anniversary of our country and special feature to our night sky.

Descendants Day Picnic

The Soldiers and Sailors monument.Residents who are descendants of the veterans honored in the Soldiers and Sailors monument were invited to bring a picnic lunch and eat on the esplanade of the Monument on Public Square, share family stories, make rubbings from the names on the wall, and hear short histories from expert speakers.


Spirit of America Celebration

A man standing at a podium reading out loud in front of a large building surrounded by people.On July 8, Cuyahoga County joined with Americans in 50 States, 5 Territories, and the District of Columbia for a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The collective experience commemorated the 250th anniversary of the date of its first public reading. Residents were invited to share in the celebration (and some ice cream!) at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Public Square.

Rediscover Veterans Memorial Bridge Tour

group of people joining the Veterans Memorial Bridge tourOn June 27, Cuyahoga County invited the public to Rediscover Veterans Memorial Bridge. More than 9600 visitors were able to explore the streetcar level of the bridge and trolley tracks and learn about revitalization efforts of the lower level of the bridge and its surroundings.
